2001 – New York City

ny1 105Es ist schon ein paar Jahre her, dass ich in New York war, damals standen die zwei Türme noch. Um mir New York mal von oben anzuschauen bin ich damals auf’s Empire State Building, ein herrlicher Ausblick! Für den nächsten Besuch hatte ich mir das World Trade Center vorgenommen.

Der nächste Besuch steht bevor, der Streifzüge Betriebsausflug, aber keine Türme mehr. So kann’s gehen, Pech gehabt.

Little Basil Thailändische Küche, fand ich nicht schlecht, schöne Kneipe

True to its name, „tiny“ West Village Thai that leaves big eaters
wanting more of its „delicious, inventive“ cooking because „the portions
are just a little too small“; still, this younger sibling of Holy Basil
is „casual, fun“ and „inexpensive.“

Madras Cafe vegetarischer Inder, auch nicht schlecht (essen war echt gut), aber trotzdem nicht ganz mein Ding

East Village 79 Second Ave. (bet. 4th & 5th Sts.) New York, NY,10003-8619; (212) 254-8002

„Hole-in-the-wall“ South Indian Vegetarian in the East Village that „defies the stereotype of bland veggie food“ („even my carnivore boyfriend loves it“); despite some mixed reactions to the decor and service, most swear „darn, this is good!“

Gradisca war ein Tipp unserer VermieterinItaliener mit gutem Essen, meine Portion war leider etwas klein. Das Lokal war aber ganz gut mit vielen jungen Leuten gefüllt.

Greenwich Village, 126 W 13th Street (bet. 6th & 7th Ave.); (212) 691-4886

Tony’s Di Napoli Italiener (klaro) mit mords grossen Portionen, ein Menue macht eigentlich 2 satt.

East 80s 1606 Second Ave. (bet. 83rd & 84th Sts.) New York, NY, 10028-4175; (212) 861-8686

„Great for families“, this „solid“ Italian dishes out „bargain“,
table-size portions of „homestyle“ eats à la Carmine’s; just gird yourself
for „kids all over the place“ and „can’t-hear-yourself-think“ acoustics.
Starbucks Cafe Kette, teilweise mit Sofas und so ausgestattet,
nicht schlecht -> mehr
Bar 89 am geilsten sind die Toiletten, unbedingt besuchen.

SoHo – Little Italy 89 Mercer St. (bet. Broome & Spring Sts.) New York, NY, 10012-4402; (212) 274-0989

The „cool bathrooms“ are a main „attraction“ at this „sleek“
SoHo American that earns more praise for its „kick-butt“ drinks than
its „basic bar food“; though the burgers are „surprisingly good“, some
suggest you „eat fast before you go deaf.“

Rhone war nur 200m von unserer Wohnung (Schlachthof Viertel), waren einmal Abends an der Bar, ganz OK.

Meatpacking District 63 Gansevoort St. (bet. Greenwich & Washington St.) New York, NY, 10014-1402; (212) 367-8440

The moderately priced French Provençal menu takes a backseat
to the Rhône Valley-laden vino list at this new Meatpacking District
wine bar where the bar itself — a black walnut colossus framed in zinc
— is the room’s focus; while its industrial, brick-and-concrete design
isn’t exactly warming, it’s not keeping cool cats away either.

Super zum Frühstücken – Brunchen

Greenwich Village 50 Commerce St. (Barrow St.) New York, NY, 10014; (212) 924-5246

„If you can get“ a table at this „inviting“ „neighborhood“ favorite on one of the „cutest blocks“ in the West Village, it’s the place to go for „tasty“, modestly priced Midwest „harvest food“ amid „great Depression-era decor“; as a bonus, „top-notch mixologists“ man the „gorgeous bar“ and there’s an „amazing“ brunch.
Gaslight Bar, auch wieder ganz in der Nähe unserer Wohnung. Naja fürn Bier in der Nacht ganz OK

Bar, ich war aber gar nicht drin, Jörg fands ganz gut dort.

Chelsea, 436 W 15th Street (bet. 9th & 10th Ave.)
Ansonsten sind wir viel rumgelaufen.
In Soho, den Villages, Chinatown und Little Italy fand ich es am schönsten.

Central Park und Staten Island Ferry war auch nicht schlecht. Financial District, Downtown ergibt sich automatisch wenn man mit der Fähre fährt.

Der Blick vom Empire State ist ein muß, denke ich.
Und wenn man schon da ist -> Time Square und Grand Central Station
Museen :

Ja und dann warn wir noch in ein 1-2 Photo Museen.
Meistens waren wir mit der U-Bahn unterwegs -> Ticket für eine Woche hat 17$ gekostet. War auch nachts kein Problem, ich hab mich immer sicher gefühlt.

New York ist sauteuer!, wobei Klamotten soviel kosten wie bei uns, ausser man erwischt nen SALE oder Factory Outlet, weiter draussen.

Nach Aussagen von Camille entstehen mittlerweile ne ganze Reihe netter Bars und Clubs in Brooklyn, weil Soho und die Villages langsam teuer und von B’n’T’s (Bridges and Tunnels = Wochendjunkies von ausserhalb) bevölkert werden.
